I have accepted the challenge of telling the stories of 52 different ancestors over the next 52 weeks. I know I've got a lot of fascinating stories to tell but whether there are 52 ..... we will have to see.
Who am I ? My name is Simon Bird and I was put up for adoption nearly 60 years ago. By the time this blog finishes, I will have reached that milestone which always used to mean you were definitely 'old'. About 7 years ago, after my father had died and my mother had succumbed to Alzheimer's, I began the search for my birth mother. I successfully found her and gained 3 half brothers and two half sisters to add to the one sister I had up until then who was also adopted. As a result of a story I will no doubt tell as part of this blog, less than a year ago I found my birth fathers family and am now in touch with 4 more half sisters and 2 more half brothers.
What interests me mostly about this genealogy adventure is the fact that my adopted tree and birth tree have such contrasts. On the adopted tree we generally have land owners with wealth (all spent before I arrived !) employing servants, whereas my birth tree is made up of agricultural labourers and individuals living in the slums of London. What part of each makes me who I am ?
